I spoke with a dear friend yesterday, I got a message saying simply I need advice. When we spoke on the phone, it became clear that there was so much going on in her life she was feeling overwhelmed. As she spoke it was clear she was “spinning plates” and the whole lot were going to fall to the ground with a mighty crash. I think most of us have experienced that kind of situation in life, our eyes flash from one situation to another and life spirals out of control. The stress we feel is too much, and often what has driven us over the edge is not particularly difficult it is just one too many issue to deal with. If you can't see the wood for the trees, you can't see the whole situation clearly because you're looking too closely at small details, or because you're too closely involved. That’s where a Life Coach comes in, we don’t solve your issues, it’s a matter of listening and talking things through asking simple questions, questions that you yourself know the answer to. It is taking your eyes off the whole and focussing on individual issues. You can deal with just one task and gain confidence from that and then deal with the next. Keeping someone’s eye on the ball, agreeing with them a course of action and setting a time scale and holding them accountable for the commitments they are making. How did the conversation go then? Well after tears and focussing on the major issue and helping her to see what she could and will do, she simply said, “Thanks I’m not upset anymore.” So would this describe you right now? Is it time you swallowed your pride, waved the white flag and reached out for help?
