I have been listening to the debates, reading the literature, keeping abreast of it all and weighing up the pros and cons. Whatever the outcome is will be the result of a democratic process and the result will be from the collective voice, heart and consciousness of the Scottish people.
I am old enough to remember the strong sectarian divides, I know there is still a remnant of that around but we have come so far. I remember nasty fights with the local kids from the catholic school which were not so far removed from the Battle of Bannockburn. I would hate to see such divides again in our great nation. Scots are a proud people and passionate.
What I am concerned about is hearing of the divides that are already happening in people’s relationships, relationships with friends and family members.
I wonder what my fellow Scots are feeling about this divide, what can we do both pre and post the referendum to bring healing? I would love to hear others thoughts on this, no matter what your political persuasion.
We need to remember that “united we stand, divided we fall.” Whether we remain part of the union or make the break we are going to have to bring healing to our nation. This has been a truly amazing year in Scotland, let’s make sure that it continues to be.
